Resonators – Live in Cristol City

Image

Resonators -British reggae at its best +Support

Resonators are at the forefront of the UK dub scene, forging their love of 70’s roots reggae with diverse contemporary influences to deliver their own exciting sound. Fronted by dual vocal power house Faye Houston and Kassia Zermon, this nine-piece takes us on a sonic excursion which reaches from the light and soulful, to the dark and gritty.

Ten years on from their beginning, their objective is more relevant than ever, to bring something reflective and positive to the world. Through the formidable craftsmanship of dub engineer DarrenJamtone at the controls, Resonators offer a powerful, psychedelic and euphoric experience both on record and on stage. Resonators have gained notoriety for their awesome live shows, as well as support slots for greats such as The Skatalites, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Jimmy Cliff, Fat Freddy’s Drop and Horace Andy to name but a few.

In the winter of 2016 Resonators released their third album, ‘Imaginary People’, “nine tracks of beautifully crafted, exquisite roots reggae”. (rootsreggaereview.com). 2018 sees them follow this up with two 12” releases (Wah Wah 45s) of previously unreleased material. Suited to the current global climate, the music gets darker and heavier. The message remains one of optimism, however, and the capacity for love and growth to conquer.

To launch these new releases, Resonators will conduct a UK tour. Having previously played legendary venues such as Brixton Academy and Brighton Dome, as well as major festivals across the UK and Europe (eg Glastonbury, Dour, Outlook), highlights from 2017 include “best live music” award-winning show of the Brighton Fringe festival, and O2 Forum in Kentish Town featuring Mykal Rose with Black Uhuru, Mad Professor and Coxsone Sound.

Resonators have received continued radio support across their three album releases and various single releases with airplay on BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra, 6Music and a live session on Radio 4’s ‘Loose Ends’.

“…a return to dub music of rare subtlety and imagination… the UK reggae act to watch.” John Masouri, Echoes Magazine

“British reggae at its best” – David Rodigan

Honeyfeet – Misfits Fundraiser

Honeyfeet – Misfits Fundraiser

A night of knees up vibes, raising money for a great cause

With generous support from Trinity Community Arts this event is a fundraiser for the fantastic Misfits Theatre Company – providing creative opportunities for people with learning disabilities in Bristol.

‘I love this crazy place and these people. I’m a performer.’ Nick (Misfits actor).

Honeyfeet. Bristol’s favourite Mancunian export, Honeyfeet touch blues, folk, soul, jazz, hip hop and rock. Someone once called it ‘folk-hop and barrelhouse-pop’. Honeyfeet have spent 8 years tearing up festivals, theatres & clubs far & wide. It helps that they are fronted by Ríoghnach Connolly, Real World’s newest signing and “a remarkable singer and flautist who can ease from Irish traditional influences to soul.” (The Guardian).

Honeyfeet are proud to be part of the Wah Wah 45 family. The  single “Sinner” was released in October 2017, with “Whatever You Do” following in early March 2018. Their new album, Orange Whip is expected late March 2018.

“I’m in love with Honeyfeet” – Benjamin Zephaniah

“Great” – Jools Holland

“Remarkable” – The Guardian

Nuala Honan. Close your eyes. Imagine Emmylou Harris, Gillian Welch & Bonnie Raitt’s Australian love child. She’s alone on a massive stage in a cotton print frock and farmer boots, singing self-penned, heart-melt songs – just to you. This will happen.

Binbag Wisdom. Original organic Bristol hip hop. Flitting between darkness and light, heartfelt and flippant, serious and stupid, Binbag wisdom will delight your peepers & ear oles.

DJ Dad. Turning the tables before, between, after & forever.

Sally Reader. Mixed in Doncaster, proofed in Bristol & Brighton and currently baking to perfection in the Forest of Dean, Sally is our poetic hoster & toaster.

Young Fathers + support

Image

Young Fathers are a group consisting of ‘G’ Hastings, from Edinburgh, Alloysious Massaquoi, originally from Liberia via Ghana and Kayus Bankole, born in Edinburgh to Nigerian parents but partially raised in Maryland USA. Their live shows are complimented by Steven Morrison on drums.

Following support from the BBC’s Zane Lowe and Lauren Laverne, and an appearance on influential USA talk show, Jimmy Kimmel in 2014, TAPE TWO won Scottish Album Of The Year (‘The SAY Award’), while their next album, DEAD, received the highly prestigious Mercury Prize for best album of 2014.

Immediately after winning the Mercury Prize, Young Fathers travelled to Berlin where they continued making a new album in a freezing basement in a building near the railway yards. Returning to the more familiar (and warmer) basement studio in Edinburgh to finish their next album, White Men Are Black Men Too, released in April 2015 to widespread acclaim.

In 2016, the band were invited to support Massive Attack on their UK and European tour after working together on Massive Attack’s single “Voodoo In My Blood”, which was released in January 2016.

Young Fathers feature on 6 tracks on the Trainspotting T2 soundtrack, including “Only God Knows”, written specifically for the film.

Submotion Orchestra

Image

Submotion Orchestra

Seven piece band influenced by dubstep, soul, ambient electronica, jazz and dub.

Fiesta Bombarda presents – kaleidoscopic collective, Submotion Orchestra, as they bring their entrancing electronic compositions to Bristol.

Formed in Leeds in 2009, the band quickly made a splash on the wider scene. Their live gigs left audiences open- mouthed, and their debut EP on Ranking Records drew a rave reaction from Gilles Peterson. Combining elements of electronic bass music, entrancing vocals, ambient, jazz and dub leaves us unable to compare them to any other group on the scene today. Their unique music is at once delicate and heavy, spacious and dense, highly atmospheric but firmly rooted. Earth-shaking bass and drums combine with lush keyboard and trumpet textures to create the perfect backdrop for the fragile beauty of Ruby Wood’s vocals, and the celestial effects of producer Ruckspin.

Fiesta Bombarda, the original carnival creatives, provide a ceremony to the senses in this unique pairing with Submotion Orchestra, merging colour and creativity in a sanctuary of modern sound and style.

On 3rd March Bristol’s Trinity Centre will be transformed by the ethereal sounds of one of the UK music scene’s most up and coming and experimental orchestras.
