En Masse returns to Bristol in 2022.
This year En Masse are bringing you a big ole banging club night from some of the most sought out DJ’s in the UK via the inimitable Sinai Sound. These artists are true masters of their craft and have time after time made their mark on UK club music.
We are proud to welcome (in running order):
I-Sha
Batu
Josey Rebelle
i-Sha plays out a breadth of selections, which is how we like to start a night. We’ve had our eyes and ears on the Accidental Meetings resident for a while now and have been very impressed.
Batu behind the decks at Trinity Centre has been some of our favourite times on the dance floor (not biased just facts). Fresh off the Opal release and rolling into a summer of festivals including closing Dekmantel, you cannot get better than Batu.
Josey Rebelle has been described as a “genre-bending DJ dominating top-tier dancefloors worldwide”, and we would tend to agree. Which is why we had to book Josey to close out the night on Sinai’s stacks. It’s going to be legendary.
Friday night, the 23rd September, we are back, back, back again at Trinity Centre. It’s one of our favourite venues in the UK, if not for the fact it can hold an ungodly amount of stacks in its halls.

The original Sister Nancy aka Mumma Nancy is, without a doubt, the first solo female deejay to record hits in the studio and has been a formidable female voice on the Dance Hall scene for over two decades.
Sister Nancy is renowned for performing ‘inna soundsystem’ style in the streets of Kingston, Jamaica. Everyone knows her dancehall classics ‘Bam Bam’ and ‘One Two’ all performed in her original ‘ragga muffin style’.
Sister Nancy will head up Trinity backed by ‘rub a dub’ artist Legal Shot.

Formed in 1979, Black Roots exploded onto the Roots Reggae scene in 1981 and continued to make large waves in the music scene till the early 90’s. But all went quiet for the band after this and they seemed to slide off the ends of the earth with nothing happening for over 10 years. Their rebirth was engineered in 2004 and the soldiers for poverty and righteousness arose from the ashes to drop 4 new albums ‘On the ground’, ‘Ghetto Feel’, ‘Son of Man’ and ‘Take it’. Their newest release was in 2021 ‘Take it Easy’. They are once again performing delivering their conscious and uncompromising messages with harmonic vocals, backed by their unique deep melodic roots reggae rhythm.

A dark and brooding interpretation of the masked VILLAIN’s finest work
Abstract Orchestra return with their MF DOOM set, focusing on the work of DOOM and collaborations such as MF DOOM and Madlib (MADVILLAIN).
Making some of the most exciting music in hip hop, Abstract Orchestra blend jazz orchestration with hip hop beats and MCs. The 18 piece, all star, big band create music that is both heavy and beautiful, pushing the boundaries of live hip hop. Abstract Orchestra explore original samples used in hip hop joints, orchestrated across the ensemble, masterfully reinterpreting the music of hip hop greats, such as J Dilla and MADVILLAIN. The group have toured and recorded with the likes of MF DOOM, Slum Village, and Illa J and supported Yasiin Bey, Talib Kweli, and The Zulu Nation.
Taking influences from Quincy Jones, Lalo Schifrin, and David Shire, the arranger, Rob Mitchell sits somewhere between Madlib and Quincy Jones. With classic aspects of big band writing, a focus on improvisation, and mad respect for hip hop, this set is high-energy and high-octane head nods from start to finish.

They’ve called in some huge special guests (to be announced very soon) as well insisting the event be powered by 10 scoops of Firmly Rooted Soundsystem – this will be a heavyweight session to remember!
Dubkasm are comprised of childhood friends Digistep and DJ Stryda, who kicked off their dub project in the mid-’90s before going on to launch their Sufferah’s Choice label in 2003 in order to showcase their studio productions. Their 2009 debut album ‘Transform I’ was a culmination of their work so far, collecting tracks from their previous 12-inches and including vocal turns from Dub Judah, Levi Roots and Afrikan Simba. A dub version of the entire record along with a remix CD completed the Transform I Trilogy in 2010.
