“Fuck Buttons are the kind of act we would’ve loved to have hosted at Simple Things; loud, layered electronica with enough abrasiveness and attitude to give their music an edge that most acts could only crave. As a result, over the course of three records they have managed to unite electronic music purists and fans of experimental guitar music alike with all their releases exclusively being released on the label arm of All Tomorrow’s Parties.

Their recent record Slow Focus was another incredibly solid showing and featured Crack Magazine’s track of the year, The Red Wing, an utterly insatiable slice of multi-faceted noise. With the wonderful acoustics and grand surrounding of Trinity providing the setting, expect a sound high on intensity and volume from one of the most innovative acts in the modern music spectrum.”

ABA SHANTI-I

To top off the bill, we have the one and only earth rocker himself! He blew us away last June when he took centre stage for the whole night with his system. This time he’ll be playing off Kibir La Amlak’s stacks. His years of experience and love of bringing people together in the dance will definitely be a treat to behold yet again. He is rightfully regarded as one of the greats of UK soundsystem culture, and we look forward to hearing his selection of classic dubplates and roots specials. We will learn from the master as he delivers another true Teachings in Dubwise.

This is the official Bristol launch party for the United Nations of Dub weekender, as we celebrate the unity of the scene, bredren coming together to bring great music and great vibes, learning and supporting each other to move forward! DUBKASM Feat SOLO BANTON
This one’s been a while in the waiting, it’s with great excitement that we welcome the legendary Bristol duo to the Teachings stage. For those that don’t know, Dj Stryda and Digistep have done a lot for Bristol’s dub scene and are renowned internationally for their live performances and roots anthems. Selecta, Dj Stryda is devoted to spreading the word, sound and power of roots reggae to Bristol and beyond, he is the driving force behind Teachings In Dub and hosts the Sufferah’s Choice radio show, which has built up a huge following. Digistep is one of the most sought after musicians in modern dub music due to his immense skill on the control board and with his saxophone. They will be joined by one of the best mic men the UK has to offer, Solo Banton, who slots into their performances with ease, the three of them having a higher understanding of the music they play and the vibe they create. Top class roots music played how it was meant to be played, outta Sound System.
KIBIR LA AMLAK SOUNDSYSTEM

Local sound system, Kibir La Amlak, are one of the most popular sounds to come out of the UK in recent times. They have gained the respect of the many crowds they have reached and also their peers with their very spiritual approach and ear for perfection when it comes to sound. They have impressed not only in the dance but also with some great production, with some top quality releases on their own label and also for the likes of Saloman Heritage and Indica Dubs. It is always a pleasure to have them at Teachings and we look forward to welcoming them once again, with their immaculate sound system providing the sound all night. Kibir La Amlak, Glory To Jah!

Neko Case

DHP presents American folk singer-songwriter Neko Case

Case’s unpredictable compositional style marks her return with her anticipated sixth solo studio album ‘The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I image_previewLove You’, out on Monday  2nd Sept.

Her Billboard Number 3 album from 2009, ‘Middle Cyclone’, earned her mainstream arrival through long hours in the studio, producing, writing, and recording her own records, in addition to touring relentlessly both as a solo act and with The New Pornographers.

Her new album, as she tells it, is the result of a specific set of circumstances in her life: “I fought hard against the feeling of grief all my life, but about three years ago I finally had to give in and mourn the dead. I had to look inward more than I wanted. It was sobering, and I often felt like I was blurring the lines of mental illness. When I stopped fighting it, it took me where I needed to go.”

Theatre Uncut

Mini-festival of theatrical action arrives at Trinity for one night only

14th November 2013

from 19:00hrs to 22:00hrs

Contact Name Email: theatreuncutbristol@gmail.com

A collection of new political plays by preeminent writers Davey Anderson, Clara Brennan, Rob Drummond, Tanika Gupta, Kieran Hurley, Neil LaBute, Tim Price, AJ Taudevin and Mark Thomas have been made available to perform rights free throughout the world during November, a limited period of simultaneous theatrical action. In Bristol performers, directors, creative teams, community groups, venue owners and many others have taken to the task with relish, many of which are to be presented in a mini-festival of events curated by Theatre Uncut Bristol.

The Fringe First/Herald Angel award-winning Theatre Uncut was originally formed in 2010 in response to the announced cuts in public spending and the 2011 plays were performed all across the UK. In 2012 writers from Syria, Greece, Spain, Iceland, Egypt and the USA penned short dramatic responses to the political and economic challenges facing their own countries and Theatre Uncut performances happened across the world. So far over 3000 people have performed Theatre Uncut plays in over 17 countries across 4 continents.

This year the public were asked what they thought needed addressing and the many responses were distilled down to this question: “Do we all get more right wing in hard times?”

Theatre Uncut also felt it was important to discuss the imminent referendum on Scottish Independence so a collection of plays within Theatre Uncut 2013 explore that also.

Throughout November, you’ll find Theatre Uncut Bristol unfolding in various guises at Parlour Showrooms (Wed 6 Nov), The Trinity Centre (Thurs 14 Nov), Tobacco Factory (lunchtime; Fri 22 Nov) and Bristol Old Vic (Thurs 28 Nov). Find out what you can see, and how you can put on your own event by visiting: theatreuncutbristol.org

Theatre Uncut was created to raise debate and galvanise action around political issues that affect all of our lives. We do this by making our plays available to as many people as possible. We feel honored to be working with writers of such high calibre and it thrills me that performances of these powerful short plays will be happening simultaneously across the world, from Scarborough to South Africa. With the continued cuts to public services in the UK, against a landscape of civil unrest and enforced austerity across the world, the need to speak out in resistance is stronger now than ever before.” — Theatre Uncut Co-Artistic Director Emma Callander

YELLOWCARD present Ocean Avenue Acoustic

+ Like Torches

Hot on the heels with the news that their 2003 breakthrough single “Ocean Avenue” has just been certified platinum (over one million sold), American pop-punk band YELLOWCARD have another reason to celebrate: this year marks the tenth anniversary of that single and its album of the same name. To kick it off, Yellowcard and Hopeless Records are releasing Ocean Avenue Acoustic, a re-imagining of all 13 songs from that album in an acoustic setting.
“On July 22, 2003 our lives were changed forever,” says the band in a joint statement. “We didn’t know what Ocean Avenue would become, but it is a chapter in our story that we will never forget. We knew that for the 10th anniversary of the release we wanted to do something more than just a tour.” “Special limited edition pre-order packages of the album including exclusive white vinyl, a one time only pressing 7”, hand written lyric sheets by Ryan Key and more are available now at Moment.Yellowcardrock.com.
Soon after the release of the acoustic album, the band will hit the road throughout the US as part of House of Blues 20th Anniversary Presents, performances at Harley Fest and Riot Fest, and in Europe and Australia. “In the US and Australia, we will be performing the entire [Ocean Avenue] record acoustically from start to finish, and then closing the show with an electric set that covers the other albums,” they explain. “In Europe, we will be playing the Vans Warped Tour, so the headlining shows will just be Ocean Avenue Acoustic. To hear the other records you’ll have to get to the closest Warped date!”
In celebration of this 10 year milestone, Yellowcard is launching moment.yellowcardrock.com, an interactive space for fans to share their favorite Yellowcard moments, both past and present. Fans can contribute to the site by posting their favorite moments to Instagram or Twitter and using the hashtag #YCMoment. The trailer for the album can be seen here: http://smarturl.it/YCOceanAveTrailer.
With over two and a half million albums sold and counting, Yellowcard continue to dominate the music world, garnering fan support and critical acclaim alike. With eight singles that have received significant Top 40 and Alternative radio airplay including the smash “Ocean Avenue”, Yellowcard continued their steady progression with their eighth and latest solo album Southern Air on Hopeless Records last year. Debuting on Billboard’s Top 200 Album Chart at #10, Southern Air is their fifth album to reach the Top 20 (and second in the Top 10).
“It’s going to be a big year for all of us and you together,” they conclude. “Ocean Avenue is a legacy that we are very proud of, so both the album and the tour are things we’ve put a lot of work into. Thanks for your continued love and support, and we will see you this Fall!”
