Blood Red Shoes

Blood Red Shoes

DHP Presents alternative rock duo from Brighton

When 23/04/2014
19:30 to 23:00

Blood Red Shoes have put together a killer line up for their spring tour with Slaves and DZ Deathrays on every night so it’s the rock duo armageddon tour.

“Unashamed exponents of the hairier side of noughties rock, Steven Ansell and Laura-Mary Carter did it vastly better than most – Laura-Mary’s air-gasp vocals and brutally catchy riffs airlifting them storeys above supposed peers…Overall the album is a reassertion that when it comes to hard-pumping guitar’n’drums duos it’s unjust that Steve and Laura-Mary are billed below the likes of The Kills on the big festival bill Sellotaped to God’s fridge. But to bemoan their fate would be like bemoaning a dollop of seagull deposit decorating your new suit as you walk out of the tailors – sometimes life just isn’t fair. For now we’ll have to be content with Blood Red Shoes quietly becoming one of the most thrillingly loud bands we’ve got – and the promising hope that there’ll be plenty more fire exactly like this from them for years to come.” Fire Like This 8/10 – NME

Eliphino: Like many producers, Leeds native Tom Wrankmore took to beatmaking at a young age, saving up to buy an MPC so he could start making music. His first productions were strongly influenced by hip-hop, garnering comparisons to artists like Madlib and other LA experimentalists based on his Out of Phase and Seasons EPs.

Now residing in London, he’s broadened his sound palette and has begun mucking about with house and garage, getting a track signed to Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Electric compilation, remixing a wide range of artists within the same field, dropping the Undivided Whole EP on the somethinksounds label and a track on the Manchester based hoya hoya label alongside Lone and Ras G. DJ sets are eclectic incorporating sounds from a wide spectrum including hip hop, garage, house, rnb, dancehall and jungle.

LTJ Bukem

The DnB Messiah returns to Bristol for another bout of serious bass bin madness

When 02/05/2014

23:00 to05:00

LINE UP:

LTJ BUKEM FT MC JOE PENG
CRITICAL IMPACT
DAZEE FT MC GARDNA
RANGE & KABLE FT MC TEXAS

LTJ Bukem is the stage name used by the drum and bass musician, producer and DJ Danny Williamson (born 1967). He and his record labels Good Looking and Looking Good Records are most associated with the jazzy, atmospheric side of drum and bass music.

He was trained as a classical pianist and discovered jazz fusion in his teenage years, having a jazz funk band at one stage. However by the late 1980s he decided to become a DJ, and gained fame in the rave scene of the early 1990s. As a producer, he released a series of drum and bass tracks such as “Logical Progression” (1991), “Demon’s Theme” (1992), “Atlantis” and “Music” (1993). His most notable release was the track “Horizons” (1995) which attained considerable popularity.

He then dipped in visibility as a producer, with his work running the London club night Speed and his record label Good Looking Records coming to the fore. A series of compilations entitled Logical Progression highlighted a jazz and ambient influenced side of drum and bass. The style became widely known as intelligent drum and bass, although Bukem himself was opposed to the moniker, unhappy with the implication that other styles of jungle were not intelligent. Bukem also explored the downtempo end of electronic lounge music, with sister label Cookin’ and the Earth series of compilations. Some of the artists who rose to fame under Good Looking in this period include Blame, Seba, Big Bud, Blu Mar Ten, DJ Dream (Aslan Davis), Future Engineers, Tayla, Aquarius (an alias of Photek), Peshay, Source Direct and Artemis.

On 16 July 1995 he did an Essential Mix alongside MC Conrad. In 1997 he remixed the James Bond theme for David Arnold’s concept album of James Bond music. In 2000 he finally released a debut solo album, the double-CD Journey Inwards. The album heavily emphasised his jazz fusion influences. 2001 saw a remix of Herbie Hancock.

He ran the Speed clubnight in London with fellow drum and bass DJ Fabio.

He DJs extensively around the world, often under the ‘Progression Sessions’ or ‘Bukem in Session’ banners, with MC Conrad.

Augustines

DHP Presents Brooklyn based, American indie rock group

When 17/04/2014
from 19:30 to 23:00

Augustines will take their new, eponymous studio album out on a month-long tour of Britain starting at the Leeds Cockpit on April 10th.

The band have reverted back to their original moniker from We Are Augustines in time for the release of their second LP on February 3rd via Votiv/Caroline International.

“This was us moving on together,” drummer Rob Allen says of the record. “It was wonderful to come through the other end and record a new record. It was a huge accomplishment and it looks towards a brighter future for us all.”

The tour continues in Glasgow on April 11th, and has an already sold out show at the London Koko due up on April 14th.

They take a breather for a couple of weeks before resuming the tour in Sheffield on May 10th, and bring the curtain down for a final time in Birmingham six days later.
